On Monday, October 5, 2015, I entered my sixth week as an
intern at WYCC. During this week, I did more transcribing for future stories
that will soon be produce by the station. I handled the WYCC email account and
sent out of notifications to various staff. The weekly episode for In the loop S6 EP4 covered topics such
as the One-on-One with Archbishop Cupich, Stony Island Arts Bank, and the Call
to Fire McCarthy. The show also gave a special shout out to the Chicago Cubs for
beating the Pittsburg Pirates. The win for the Cubs gave them an official
playoff birth and next up are the St. Louis Cardinals. On the show, the guests
were Kristen McQueary, Ravi Baichwal, and Tiffany Sanders. After the show, I,
and a few other interns, assisted the Interactive Media personnel with
uploading photos to the company’s blog website. On Friday, I was able to go out
on my first official field shoot. Myself, and one of the cinematographer went
out to the Forest Preserve to take some footage of the woods, lake, bike
trails, and more. Overall, it was a nice week and I learned a lot during this
time.

Internship 9/28/15-10/2/15
On Monday, September 28, 2015, I began my fifth week as an
intern at WYCC. During this week, I did logging for future packages that will
air on feature shows. I attended staff meetings that allowed the interns to
speak about possible feature package stories. I researched stories on violence,
education, and political topics. Every morning, the interns are assigned to
research different news stories by Tribune, Sun-Times, Huffington Post, and
many more. On In the Loop S6 EP3, the
topics covered were Chicago’s Deep Tunnel Project, Alzheimer’s disease, and New
Cuts to Services. The guests on the show were Rep. Ron Sandack, Amisha Patel,
and Natalie Moore. After the taping, all the staff and interns were invited to
an appreciation lunch for participating in the Walk for Health event. We
enjoyed pizza, popcorn, kind bars, salad, chips, and much more. During the
appreciation lunch, we watched videos and photos taken while at the event. I
forgot to mention we were given cool t-shirts as well. Other than that, it was an
awesome overall week at WYCC.
Internship 9/21/15-9/26/15
On Monday, September 21, I began my fourth week as an intern
for WYCC. During this week, the studio were preparing for the Walk for Health,
event that took place in the Dan Ryan Woods on Saturday, September 26, 2015. I
spent most of my week assisting with stuffing bags for the participants,
stuffing bags for the children, stuffing envelopes, and assisting staff with
making phone calls. This event was amazing for the community because it
provided health information that was vital to adults and children. This event
distributed large amounts of bottled water, apples, bananas, skinny pop
popcorn, kind bars, and much more. As for In the Loop S6 EP 2, this was a great show. The topics discussed were
Transgender Teens, Cook County Forest Preserves, and Massive Tax Hike. The
guest on the show were Maze Jackson, Sara Burnett, and Kevin Coval, and Arnold
Randall. I took photos of the guest, directed them into the green room, and
assisted with audio production for the guest.
Internship 9/14/15-9/18/15
On Monday, September 14, 2015, I entered my third week as an
intern for WYCC. During this week the television studio began preparing for the
Walk for Health event. This event was free for anyone who wanted to come out
and enjoy a fun filled day. The event will have fun activities for adults as
well as children. The highly respected network began taping In the LoopS6 EP 1 this week which is the premiere of the new season. The guests for
the show were Ralph Martire, Juan Perez JR, and Sarah karp. The round table
discussion topics were the CPS Budget Crisis, raging debate over Charter schools,
and the possible benefits of home schooling versus traditional classroom. My
job was to greet the guest, direct them to the green room, take photos, make
sure they were comfortable, and direct them into the studio in a timely
fashion. I received the opportunity to watch the stage manager inside the
studio, direct and make sure everything is running smoothly.
Internship 9/7/15-9/11/15
On Monday, September 7, 2015, I entered my second week as an
intern for WYCC. This was a short week for me because of the Labor Day holiday
in which I hope everyone enjoyed. During this week, I met more staff members
around the office and attended meetings with the producers of the network. I
assisted the associate producer for a pledge drive titled Mystery Marathon on PBS Chicago. I found hyperlinks to some mystery
stories with provided information about specific episodes, information on the
characters, and the direct link to view entire episodes. I did more
transcribing for upcoming feature stories for In the Loop, which should be airing soon. The first episode for In the Loop was canceled due to
unforeseen circumstances that should be resolved soon. I enjoy transcribing
because it helps you become a better listener and may help increase typing
speed. For those who may not know, transcribing is typing word for word in a
face to face interview.
