Wrigley Field Rich Traditions: Photo courtesy of photojournalists

By: Jerome Streety

Growing up on the south side of Chicago, I was expected to become a White Sox fan and embrace the city's south side tradition. That was not the case, in fact, my entire life I was always cheering for the Cubs. The Chicago Cubs recently celebrated Wrigley Fields 100th anniversary in April 2014. This picture really speaks to me because I love Wrigley Field and the tradition behind it. Wrigley is the only major league ball park that has ivy on the outfield walls. The basket hanging from the outfield walls are very unique. The scoreboard is awesome if you ask me, The Cubs and the Boston Red Sox are the only teams with manually operated scoreboards. The flags are cool too, including the famous W flag win the Cubs pull a victory. Wrigley has a lot of open space and the night games are nice. The open space allows you to view the sky and embrace the clouds as they pass by. The design is awesome and it has been so many memories inside this ball park. One of my most enjoyable and memorable moments in Wrigley Field history happened on May 11, 2000. Mr. Glenallen Hill's monstrous Home Run against the Milwaukee Brewers. That moment had fans screaming and jumping with disbelief. This picture speaks a million words to me because of the rich history, it speaks joy and excitement. This is why the photo above is effective because of the beautiful tradition and design of the great Wrigley Field.
